MARK OUT DESIGNATED AREA AND REMOVE SOIL ETC TO A DEPTH THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT ROADBASE (100-

150MM), BEDDING SAND (30MM) & THE PAVER DEPTH (COMMONLY 40MM).

PEG OUT AND STRING LINE THE AREA OF WORK, USING A STRING LINE SPIRIT LEVEL  ESTABLISH SLIGHT FALLS AWAY FROM ANY STRUCTURE, STAIRS OR PATIOS FOR WATER RUNOFF. (OPTIONAL, PLACE EDGING ON SIDES BELOW GROUND FOR A BETTER WORK PLACE & FINISH).

IF PLACING PAVERS ABOVE GROUND PLACE EDGING (BOXING) BOARDS AROUND THE DESIGNATED AREA & USE A SPIRIT LEVEL TO ESTABLISH FALLS.

ADD THE ROADBASE TO THE DESIRED THICKNESS TAKING INTO ACCOUNT COMPACTION AND SPREAD EVENLY WITH A METAL RAKE WHILE USING A TAPE MEASURE TO KEEP THE FALL IN PLACE.

START COMPACTING THE ROADBASE USING A WACKER PACKER (PLATE COMPACTOR) WHILE STILL MEASURING EVENNESS AGAINST THE STRING LINE OR EDGING BOARD FOR THE FALL.

PLACE SCREED RAILS ON THE ROADBASE AND SPREAD BEDDING SAND OVER THE ENTIRE AREA AND RAILS.

USE A LONG STRAIGHT LENGTH OF TIMBER OR PREFERABLY A SCREEDING BOARD WITH A SPIRIT LEVEL ON TOP WORK BACKWARDS AWAY FROM STRUCTURES A SLOWLY DRAG THE BOARD OVER THE RAILS IN A SAWING MOTION FROM SIDE TO SIDE TO GET A NICE EVEN FIRM FLAT SURFACE (BUT STILL WITH THE FALL IN PLACE).

FOR NARROW STRIPS AND PATHWAYS YOU CAN JUST USE A LONG SPIRIT LEVEL.

ONCE COMPLETED GENTLY REMOVE SCREED RAILS AND FILL THE GAPS WITH BEDDING SAND AND GENTLY TROWEL SMOOTH TO MATCH.

START LAYING YOUR PAVERS ALONG THE LONGEST PART OF THE AREA & PREFERABLY FROM THE STRUCTURE, PATIO ETC OUTWARDS USING YOUR STRING LINE AS A GUIDE AND A SPIRIT LEVEL & MALLET TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT & LEVEL (WITH THE SLIGHT FALL IN MIND).

CONTINUE LAYING IN THE PATTERN OF YOUR CHOICE (IF THE PAVERS HAVE SPACER NIBS, BUTT UP AGAINST EACH OTHER) OTHERWISE LEAVE A 3-5MM GAP BETWEEN PAVERS TO ALLOW FOR GAP SAND LATER ON.

IF USING CEMENT UNDERNEATH USE A SPIRIT LEVEL & MALLET TO TAP LEVEL AND STRAIGHT ( BUT DO NOT WALK ON LAYED AREA UNTIL CEMENT HAS SET).

(NOTE: IF LAYING STRAIGHT OVER EXISTING CONCRETE SLAB USE PRE-MIX MORTAR INSTEAD OF PRE-MIX CONCRETE SO THE PAVERS DON'T ROLL AND SIT WRONG ON THE GRAVEL CONTENT OF THE PRE-MIX CONCRETE).

CONTINUE TO USE SPIRIT LEVEL & MALLET TO KEEP PAVERS LEVEL & TRUE.

ONCE THE AREA IS COVERED USE A MASONRY CUTTER FOR ODD SIZED ENDINGS & GAPS.

APPLYING THE SAME AS BEFORE USE STRING LINE TO SET YOUR GUIDE LINES.

PLACE ENOUGH CONCRETE MIX FOR YOUR CHOSEN PAVER SIZE AND HEIGHT LEVEL. GENTLY TAP STRAIGHT AND LEVEL WITH A MALLET.

ONCE CONCRETE HAS SET THE FUN BEGINS....

CAN PLACE WEED MAT DOWN AND FILL SURROUNDING AREAS WITH DECORATIVE GRAVEL.

BACK FILL WITH TOP DRESSING/UNDER TURF MIX AND PLACE YOUR TURF SLABS ON TOP LEVEL WITH THE PAVERS.

CLICK HERE FOR A "HOW TO" WITH TURF.

OR COMBINE BOTH WITH SELECTED AREAS BOXED IN FOR PLANTS SURROUNDED BY DECORATIVE GRAVEL.

ONCE ALL PAVERS HAVE BEEN LAYED EITHER USE A MALLET OR BETTER STILL A WACKER PACKER  (WITH AN OLD PIECE OF CARPET ATTACHED TO ENSURE NO DAMAGE TO YOUR NEW PAVERS) TO COMPRESS DOWN FOR A SOLID PLATFORM.

FINISH OFF BY EITHER KEEPING BOX FRAMING, ADDING BLOCK EDGING OR SIMPLY USE CONCRETE TROWELED ON A 45 DEGREE ANGLE TO SUPPORT THE PAVERS FROM PEELING AWAY OVER TIME.

ADD GAP SAND AND BROOM INTO ALL GAPS UNTIL FULL, BRUSH OFF EXCESS SAND AND HOSE DOWN SO FORMS A WEED RESISTANT BARRIER BETWEEN THE PAVERS.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PAVER CARE

REGULARLY GURNEY OR SWEEP WITH A STIFF BRISTLED BROOM TO KEEP CLEAR FROM DEBRIS BUILD UP WHICH COULD STAIN AS THE MATTER DECOMPOSES.

RECOMMEND USING A PAVER SEALANT TO STOP STAINS PERMANENTLY DISCOLOURING YOUR PAVERS, ESP AROUND BBQ'S AND ENTERTAINMENT AREAS.

RESEAL AROUND HEAVY TRAFFIC AREAS WHEN REQUIRED.

STAINS
